LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators provide plenty of storage in small footprints. They're also priced less than conventional-depth French door refrigerators and remove the requirement for a separate under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView Counter-Depth Refrigerator (LMWC23626S) is a refrigerator that has the capacity of a standard fridge in modern and sleek design, isn't any different. It also features an internal dispenser that gives easy access to drinking water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins are roomy, and the top right shelf can be folded down to form a half-depth shelves that permit taller items to fit. The bottom of the fridge is stocked with crisper drawers, and the deli drawer with its full width is perfect for meat or fresh produce.
The refrigerator has a recessed icemaker on the back wall. This saves space and lets you store more bags of ice. The refrigerator uses door-cooling, which uses vents in the doors of the fridge and freezer to let cold air enter the refrigerator. It helps prevent hot spots and ensures an even temperature throughout the refrigerator.
This LG refrigerator was a standout during our tests. It provides plenty of space to serve a family, but we found a few annoying issues. First, the freezer drawers don't stay at the temperature we'd like. The temperature of the middle drawer climbed to 41° during our maximum use test, which is the temperature needed to freeze ice cream and other frozen foods. The temperature of the rest of the freezer was about 36 degrees.
Another issue is that refrigerator doors have sunken handles both on the inside and under which makes it difficult for people who are shorter to comfortably move them closed. It may seem trivial, but we prefer front-mounted handles on refrigerators to make them more convenient to open and close.
The fridge is expensive, but it's well worth it for anyone looking to have an ultra-modern look for their kitchen. We recommend this fridge for those looking to upgrade their existing refrigerator, or for those who are building a brand new home and want an integrated design in the kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The RF23M8090SG is Samsung's latest and most elegant counter-depth French door fridge, priced at $4,200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well during our cooling test, however we don't like the plastic handles or the flimsy crisper bins.
One thing that makes the RF23M8090SG apart is its Bespoke line that lets you personalize your fridge with removable colored panels which can be swapped when you're tired of the ones you have currently. There are 11 colors to choose from, from soft pastels to bolder hues and four metallic finishes. These panels can be customized to include photos or text. This gives the fridge a more personal touch and can match your Rick Owens dress, Andy Warhol banana neon, or tie-dye Crocs.
You can even alter the color of the refrigerator's LED lighting, which is a nice touch. The interior of the fridge has an intelligent finish that reduces the appearance of smudges and makes cleaning easier. The only real drawbacks of the RF23M8090SG are its cramped beverage center, as well as it takes some effort to open the door-indoor feature which houses a water dispenser and an ice maker. You need to look for an opening on the side of the door that is halfway across, and once you have it you will be able to open an additional door inside the fridge, which houses the docking station for pitchers along with the water dispenser as well as two shelves for drinks.
The 6.8 cubic foot freezer compartment is big enough to store a lot frozen food. It also comes with an open drawer that allows you to access the food you need without opening the entire compartment. There's also a butter-bin-style storage compartment in the freezer to allow for easy storage of small items, as well as a large capacity drawer which can store larger frozen items. The drawer can be locked using a password to keep out unwanted guests and also has an LED light that is handy to allow you to see what's inside at glance. The freezer's also able to track energy use and help you cut down on your energy consumption with the smart-enabled SmartThings Energy mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators are a great addition to any kitchen. They look neat and work well in all sizes of rooms. Counter-depth refrigerators are the best option for those who want this design, but without the added height. We've tried a variety of them, and this particular Frigidaire model has a higher than average score in our ratings due to its affordable price and thoughtful features such as an adjustable temperature drawer.
But it also has a few nagging problems. Our tests show that the FGHB2866PF warms up quite some in the freezer, and can get uncomfortably warm on the refrigerator's outermost shelves. That's reflected in our heat maps which show how the internal temperatures vary from minute to minute. The butter bin in the orange region at the top right is particularly warm during our testing period. It might not seem to be a problem initially, but the fridge spends most of the time above 32 degrees.

It's worth mentioning that this model isn't Energy Star certified, which could be important for certain buyers. The main issue is that the fridge isn't a great choice. It's lacking advanced features and is made of a slender, flimsy material which makes it difficult to recommend it over more expensive alternatives at this price.
This Frigidaire refrigerator is like the stainless steel version that you might see at the local store for appliances. It's a great option with a brushed-finish that looks attractive and is impervious to scratches. However it's not able to differentiate itself from competitors which are more feature-rich and less expensive.
However, if you're looking for a budget counter-depth French door refrigerator and do not have the money to spend a lot on our top selections, then the FGHC2331PF is worth looking into. It's big enough to meet the needs of the majority of families and does a great job keeping food fresh. Even if it's not an energy-efficient model, it doesn't have the same price tag more than our top-rated models do.
